Some common issues treated with Invisalign®

Crowded teeth

This occurs when there is lack of room within your jaw for all of your teeth to fit normally. When left untreated, crowded teeth prevent the normal function of teeth potentially causing dental decay and increasing the chances of gum disease.

Crossbite

This occurs when the upper and lower jaws are both misaligned. It causes one or more upper teeth to bite on the inside of the lower teeth and can happen on both the front and/or the sides of the mouth. Misalignment or crossbites can cause wear of the teeth, contribute to gum disease and potentially bone loss.

Widely Spaced Teeth

This occurs with abnormal continued growth of the jaw bone. Spaces can cause other teeth to shift creating an uneven bite. Although easy to maintain oral hygiene, spacing issues may contribute to some periodontal diseases. How one feels abut the look is very personal; for some, spaced teeth add character to their smile and for others it may be issue enough to want to close the spaces all together.

Overbite

What people commonly refer to as an overbite is known to dental professionals as overjet. Overjet occurs when the upper teeth bite over the lower teeth. This may be caused by genetics, over development of the bone that supports the teeth and / or in some instances bad oral habits. This issue may lead to gum problems or irritation causing wear on the lower teeth and in severe cases contribute to painful jaw and joint problems.

Underbite

Underbite occurs when the lower teeth protrude past the front teeth. It’s usually caused by undergrowth of the upper jaw and / or overgrowth of the lower jaw or in some instances, both. This may also be caused by missing upper teeth which can prevent the normal function of front teeth or molars which leading to excessive tooth wear and potentially contributing to painful jaw and joint problems.
